Exciting, welcoming and historic, the Mediterranean city of Barcelona is Spain‘s centerpiece for art and culture and home to a new breed of luxury boutique hotels. Barcelona is the perfect destination for an unforgettable city break.

In the heart of Barcelona on the Gran Via your ideal elegant stay is waiting. Cotton House Hotel – which was the headquarters of the Cotton Textile Foundation at a time when Barcelona’s textile industry was thriving -, is only steps away from the most exclusive shopping street in the city. The well-heeled residential Eixample district contains some smart designer boutiques and is a wonderland of modernista icons, including the cathedral, Sagrada Familia and surreal buildings such as Casa Batlló and Casa Milà. Although it’s very central, the Gran Via isn’t so impressive in terms of hip restaurants and great shops. But it didn’t really bother us. The reason? At Cotton House Hotel it’s all about the inside where you’ll be blown away by its striking spaces.

Opened in January 2015 after an extreme makeover, this magnificent marvel in the stunning Spanish city of Barcelona is a five star urban hideaway ideal for both business and pleasure. This is not just another luxury hotel in Barcelona. What’s their secret? Cotton House Hotel is a stylish standout and hard to beat for its unique interior design and welcoming vibe. Complete with a classy Catalan bar & restaurant, a lofty library-lounge, lush terrace, rooftop pool and a mini spa & gym, this 83-room boutique hotel is a place where history, elegance, modernity and a high level of luxury perfectly blend. In addition, the well-dressed staff is super friendly and Cotton’s Atelier is a great spot for well-heeled guests to select the best fabrics for a tailor-made shirt.

Housed in a 19th-century landmark building in the neoclassical style, this wow-worthy hotel designed by prize-winning interior decorator Lázaro Rosa-Violán (also from Hotel Cort in Mallorca) has honored its origins in various ways. We absolutely love Cotton’s true essence of old Barcelona. The original floor tiles, ceiling frescoes, wood paneling, two distinctive staircases and the cotton theme throughout the hotel are all reminders of the past, while the elegant furnishings and lighting have a more contemporary feel.

In the rooms, where again classic meets modern, you can find the most comfy beds ever and luxurious bathrooms with Italian Ortigia bath products. Unsurprisingly, cotton is king at all the hotel rooms & suites. You’ll see cotton flowers as well as artworks, the rooms are cotton white and are all named after different types of cotton, from ‘Taffeta’ to ‘Madras’. Try the hotel’s specially designed cotton-plant spray. Its sweet smell is truly divine! Our restful & gorgeous room was facing the not-so-beautiful buildings at the back of the hotel plus the hotel’s patio. We found our little balcony featuring plantation shutters, wicker furniture and stunning black & white floor tiles truly relaxing and the high-tread-count sheets are ultra-soft. Do you need some extra space? The 90-m2 duplex Vichy Suite at Cotton House Hotel in Barcelona is the pinnacle of luxury with its private terrace. The first-floor Ottoman and Damask Suites overlooking Gran Vía including 19th-century features such as restored colorful frescoes on the high ceilings are one-of-a-kind. Both suites boast spacious balconies.

The cosmopolitan Batuar cocktail bar & restaurant at Cotton House Barcelona is the place to be for eating or drinking in style. This place of splendor elegance with a certain colonial flavor boasts an extremely enticing 300 m2 terrace with enough space for lounging, long lunches and drinks in the sun. But what about the menu? Batuar offers all-day dining and afternoon tea. Think of a modern Catalan cuisine with market ingredients of the very highest quality. Cotton House Hotel in Barcelona is a breakfast mecca offering a riot of sweet temptations and other delicious delights.

For swimming, snoozing or sunbathing go to the roof where you can find the pool with a Sagrada Familia view. Heavenly Cotton massages, facials and other spa treatments are offered in the treatment room, while fitness fanatics can work out in the hotel gym (sadly very small).

Go and try it soon! You won’t be disappointed.
