BOUTIQUE BARCELONA
02/2015
|
In Barcelona, two new hotels have given buildings of rich cultural heritage a refresh with sophisticated style and artsy flair.

Just a couple of minutes walk from Barcelona’s prominent Las Ramblas boulevard and the city beaches, The Serras recently opened in a 1846-build that was once home to Picasso’s first studio. With its neo-classical façade, the hotel overlooks the Gothic Old Town and Port Vell, where some of Spain’s most stupendous superyachts bob in the marina.

With attention to Catalan styles, the 28 rooms feature iron and wood accents and traditional hydraulic tiles that depict city neighbourhoods. A highlight is surely the Picasso suite, from where the artist’s painting of the view of the Basilica was born. The rooftop, too, is one to flaunt about; an infinity pool, bar and terrace area overlooking the marina invite to enjoy a signature cocktail and a sharing plate of fresh ceviche.

Hotel Cotton House, Barcelona
Opening this week in Barcelona’s central Ensanche district is hotel Cotton House, part of the Marriot Autograph Collection of hotels. Taking its name from its 19th century build – once the Association of Cotton Manufacturers’ headquarters – grandeur and elegance have long resided here. The 83-key hotel includes five spacious suits, alongside public areas that have been reinvented as a library, restaurant, cocktail bar and 300 square-metre vegetation conservatory. On the sixth floor, unwind by the rooftop pool with sweeping views over the city.
